LAYERS 9 – A New Chapter in Operations

Evatec’s Chief Operating Officer, Stefan Marxer, joined the company in early 2025, bringing more than 20 years of international experience in operations, including leadership positions in Asia and Eastern Europe. His roots in the industry go back to an apprenticeship at Balzers AG in 1990, followed by 16 years across Balzers, Unaxis, and OC Oerlikon. Returning now, he sees an opportunity to strengthen Evatec’s operational performance with his background in LEAN management and process excellence.

For Stefan, operational excellence means delivering consistent, efficient, and reliable daily performance. This includes optimizing procurement, inventory, logistics, and supplier relationships while reducing lead times and costs. A culture of continuous improvement and sustainable quality is at the core of this approach.

He notes that Evatec’s portfolio has grown significantly in size, complexity, and technological sophistication since his earlier industry experience. Nonetheless, returning felt familiar thanks to former colleagues and his deep industry roots.

Transparency and data are essential for progress. Evatec has introduced visible shopfloor boards that display KPIs and is advancing digitalization to track tools across the value chain. These measures support better productivity insight and improved decision‑making.

From a customer perspective, the main requirements are speed, quality, and cost efficiency, particularly important in fast‑moving markets influenced by geopolitical uncertainty and export restrictions. Flexible supply chains and scalable solutions are increasingly necessary.

Internally, Evatec is focusing on reducing lead times, lowering manufacturing costs, strengthening supplier collaboration, and maintaining product quality. Enhanced shopfloor management, KPI monitoring, and a dedicated task force support quick responses to disruptions.

Looking ahead, AI will further support operations through automated handling of order confirmations, delivery notes, invoices, and improved master data quality within the ERP system.
